Great to hear it’s finally out!
In the description of the free version (in the mobile app store) it says the album version has 2 scenes, is this right or a spelling mistake because first it was going to be 12 scenes that went to 6, and are now only 2 scenes included in the album version?

I too purchased this thinking it would work on my 2nd gen ipod touch. Disappointing! Why do you need to make another version for the touch? The touch has built in microphone support with the apple in ears.

Yes Chris, i have turned off and powered up my iphone a lot of time time, i tried to reinstall the apps but without effect.

Both versions single and album don’t work on my german iphone. when i start the apllication, i see a black screen and then the app closes and i see the home screen again.

Yep, downloaded from u.s. store, and opens for a second, and then unexpectedly quits. trying restore of iPhone to see if it corrects it.

I just did a restore of my iPhone software and the issue no longer is occurring. I am now installing my other apps. one at a time to see if a setting in one might be interfering.

I have 2g and am experiencing this crash also. There is no other alternative than a restore. I have tons of games and thing that I would rather not reinstall to get this going. Is there another workaround? I am in the US.

Restoring the phone software seemed to correct the crash issue. This app. is awesome, try the worldquantizer while eating, it’s pretty messed up

Here’s an article for how to backup and restore iPhone software. This resoved my crash issue. Restore can take a while like 40 mins. to 1 hour. so do it when you don’t have to be using your phone:

I’ve been searching for rjdj in the App Store several times a day in eager anticipation. I finally have it and IT IS AMAZING.

i think one of our other apps are causing this to crash. All my other apps open fine. Damn i just don’t want to have to restore again. It gets old and is time consuming when an app does this. I downloaded over edge not wifi. I wonder if thats the culprit.

Alright, it works for me now.
But where are the files saved once recorded? I made a beat in quantizer, and recorded it, but i want to rip it off of the iPhone…Is this possible? I use Senuti for this sort of thing, usually.

Pretty much backing up will back up all your settings, things like mail accounts, contacts, calendars….stuff like that, if you have photos on your phone, you might want to import them into iPhoto before doing the restore. When the restore is done, it clears out all the software on your phone, and reinstalls it. The restore only takes about 10 mins. or so, it’s the resyncing of the other files (music, apps….etc…) that takes a long time. Not sure why this worked for me, though i thought i’d give it a shot……well worth it, this app. is really a lot of fun it’s such a great idea.

I think maybe somewhere we could share our personal scenes that we’ve recorded would be a good idea. Maybe a Facebook app or something for social networking sites where we could upload our favourite scenes and help you spread the word for RJDJ. I’ll be telling all my friends who own an iphone to get this app as its really blown me away.

yeah, after i did the restore, i synced all my data and apps. back to the phone, and and opened and used each of the apps. to make sure they weren’t interfering. So, everything is back on the phone and it’s all working swimmingly, and it took much less time than waiting for an update.

using album version. i have 1st gen iPhone. saw crashing right after install. agonizingly long restore process worked to get software to stop crashing -app works – but volume is very low almost inaudible – not what i expected! rebooted several times, no dice. please update or provide workaround. thank you!

Ok here is what I did that is not as painstaking. Since I downloaded on edge to the phone directly. You need to delete the app from the phone and download it to your computer with wifi then sync applications in itunes. App is now running and no need to restore.

How to get more scenes for advanced users. (Admins, remove this post if you don’t approve)
1. Jailbreak (If you haven’t already)
2. Install Subversion from Cydia
3. SSH into phone
4. “cd /var/mobile/Applications/(RANDOM STRING)/RjDj_Album.app/rjdj_scenes/” (The date might give you some clue to what RANDOM STRING to use)
5. Edit get_scenes.sh and change the SCENES-line to the line below.
6. Run “sh get_scenes.sh”
7. Wait for it to complete
8. Start RjDj and enjoy lots more scenes (some working better than others)

But i have some problems with PD. As long as i unterstand i need to install the rjlib in my PD. But how do i do that? (OS X 10.5.5 , PD 0.41-4)

@Fabian: To install the rjlib, just grab it from the wiki at http://trac.rjdj.me/wiki/RjLib under “Browse source”.
Then either locate the folder called “extra” inside your Pd app and put all files from rjlib there, or alternatively enter the path to where you put the rjlib files to the Pd search path: Settings -> Path. Don’t forget to to a “save all settings”.
You can check if everything is installed correctly by createing an object called “soundoutput” which is the [dac~] replacement necessary for rjdj scenes.
Anyway, apart from soundoutput and soundinput you can make a scene without using any rjlib patches, too.

i find a way to get the recorded music:

It seems I can only get this to work properly with the iphone earbuds with the mic on them. I can’t seem to get much sound out of it if I have my regular headphones plugged in while trying to use the mic built into the iphone. Has anyone gotten it to work without the earbud mic?

Same question as Sam here can you not use regular headphones with this program? If not I am rather bummed and would welcome an update that allows 3rd party headphone support with just built in phone mic use. Other than that congrats on a cool program rjdj team.

Same problem here with the sound being so low I can barely hear it. I’m using a 1st gen iPhone and Shure earbuds. The volume is all the way up and other apps on the phone that make sounds are perfectly fine but RJDJ sounds like someone turned the volume down to 1.
Please don’t tell me we have to use those crappy sounding Apple earbuds with the mic to get this app to work.

My iPhone Headphones don’t have a Microphone, so i can’t use the app..
Just baught the Album-Version but it seems that it doesnt support the built-in mic..
Please fix that!

i have the album version, and its low volume as well, i can use the mic in the phone and it works, but like minimalist said, its like someone turned the volume to 1, i actually switched to play a song on the phone (with rjdj who needs to though right?) and im pretty sure i lost a bit of hearing because i for got the volume seems low with rjdj but not the rest of the phone :P

when I first started the app I had the same sort of problem. After unpluging and repluging the headphone cord, and perhaps restarting the app, it worked fine. I’ve got it to work with regular headphones, and with iphone headphones with built in mic. I even plugged it into my car stereo and spaced out on my way home from work. (I wouldn’t suggest eargasm for this…too much feedback)

Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant!
RJDJ is a non-narcotic hallucinogen… As I sat at my desk at work on Friday, with RJDJ running and headphones on, it wasn’t too long before I felt the urge to murmur to myself (and into the mic) semi-consciously and experience the refracted feedback, sliding deeper and deeper into some sort of trance. Two hours later I sat up and found that I had completed all my work (quite well) without being aware of having done it, as I travelled on some sort of mental vacation courtesy of RJDJ. (Just make sure your door stays closed so no one overhears and thinks you’re having a mental breakdown.)
I got RJDJ because of an interest in music-making but this seems like something with more potential than a Koan-type music generator…. Don’t know much about psychology but I feel like RJDJ is enabling me to tap into something subconscious, akin to primal scream therapy or especially transcendental mediation.
The scenes that come with it remind me of the Lexicon Vortex effects unit, but the RJDJ+iPhone portablilty, ease of use and emphasis on the phone’s microphone makes this a very unique and special instrument.
Questions:
- Is there / Will there be a way to export recordings out of the iPhone?
- Is there / Will there be a way to import new scenes?
